Julie Bretland

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Sussex countryside, Artelium is a contemporary wine estate celebrating the craft of English winemaking. Founded by Julie Bretland and Mark Collins, the name Artelium blends art and ium – Latin for ‘a place to congregate’ reflecting our philosophy of creating a space where people come together to enjoy exceptional wine & art in a beautiful natural setting.

Artelium wines embody the innovative and creative spirit of modern English winemaking. Our quintessentially English still and sparkling wines are crafted from noble grape varieties grown across the Sussex South Downs. With each vintage, our winemakers shape and balance nature’s yield, combining creativity, patience and skill to produce wines that capture the character of every year and every vineyard plot. For Artelium, winemaking is a creative act. Like an artist working with canvas or clay, a winemaker interprets what nature offers, working with each vintage’s essential qualities to blend and shape it into something exceptional. To reflect this commitment to artistry, Artelium’s sparkling labels are inspired by heritage craft, whilst our stills & Artefact range are designed by contemporary artists. Each bottle tells a story shaped by nature, time and craftsmanship, ready to be shared & enjoyed.

Beyond winemaking, we welcome guests for tours, tastings and dining at our East Sussex vineyard. Explore the vines, stop to admire one of our striking art installations, discover the story of English viticulture, and enjoy guided tastings of our award-winning wines either by the fire in our tasting room, or on our sun-drenched terrace.

When you dine with us, settle into our chic, contemporary tasting room-come-restaurant, complete with exposed beams and a wood burning stove, to enjoy bold natural flavours and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, whether you’re here for a fireside lunch, candlelit dinner or our Sunday menu. Enjoy bold, seasonal flavours crafted from the finest Sussex produce: think locally sourced beef, South-Coast seafood, Sussex cheeses, and vegetables from our own kitchen garden, all thoughtfully paired with Artelium wines. In the summer, dining extends to our sun-drenched terrace which overlooks the vines, perfect for leisurely lunches and golden hour drinks.

At Artelium, no two visits—and no two vintages—are ever the same. Each tells its own story.
